During Covid 19 lockdown
Donation to the South African Red Cross Society, 16 April 2020
Precious babies were able to make a donation of baby clothing and essentials to The South African Red Cross Society for distribution to destitute moms of new born babies during Covid 19 shutdown. We hope to continue supporting them after the shutdown and pray that we will receive enough donations to make it possible.

Our visit to a mother in Hammanskraal

A Story of Hope
This is an account of how Precious Babies, in collaboration with a Faith-Based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), provided hope to a family in Hammanskraal.
Baby Sipho[1] was born in March 2019 at Jubilee Hospital in Temba.
His Mother Khomotso, is an orphan who lives with her grandmother and extended family. She is 18 years old and is in grade 9.
The family live in a small RDP house and Khomotso’s grandmother, Lorraine, receives a foster care grant of R1 000 per month. Lorraine supplements this grant with domestic work when available. Khomotso’s brother, Peter, who is in grade 11, collects and sells recyclable materials to supplement the family’s income.
When Sipho was born Khomotso did not have baby clothes and other essential baby care items that Sipho needed.
On one of her visits to the social worker from the Faith-Based NGO that supports families in Hammanskraal, Lorraine mentioned that the family does not have clothes for baby Sipho. As this Faith-Based NGO works in partnership with Precious Babies to distribute packs with essential baby care items and clothing, the social worker provided a pack for Baby Sipho.
Khomotso received the pack when Sipho was one week old and the clothes and toiletries lasted for five months. Lorraine recounted that she and Khomotso were desperate for clothes and baby essentials for baby Sipho and they would have had to ask their neighbours for help if she did not receive the pack from Precious Babies. The pack provided by Precious Babies gave Khomotso hope for her baby. She hopes that Sipho will be a pilot when he grows up.

Young mother and baby from Gezina
We went to visit this lovely young mother and her baby in Gezina. At the time of her baby’s birth she was homeless with no family to support or help her. Fortunately a local charity could help them with accommodation. She also received the Precious Babies Gift pack with the things she needs to care for her baby.
Happy mother and baby
